The first 15% ish was a bit of a drag, but is a great setup to the series!

。。。more

This book took me forever to get through, but I definitely enjoyed it despite its pacing。 The fantasy world is very rich and full of interesting lore that I'm pretty much guaranteed to keep reading the series。 This book took me forever to get through, but I definitely enjoyed it despite its pacing。 The fantasy world is very rich and full of interesting lore that I'm pretty much guaranteed to keep reading the series。 。。。more

"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass。 What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow。"I've finally taken the plunge and started to dive into probably one of the most intimidating book series to ever plague my TBR and I'm honestly so pleasantly surprised by how this went? I really don't know what I expected, but I think the praise and hype of this series combined with the sheer length of it have always placed it in this weird space in my brain where I believe it to be super complicated and difficult to get into and it just。。。 wasn't。 And I had a really fun time getting started into what has the potential to be a new favourite series。This is an excellent opening book for a big series, introducing you to a big group of characters, teaching you as a reader about the world as they learn too。 The characters are great, and their friendships and interactions are wonderful to get to know。 The bonds between Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwene and Nynaeve are shown in such a way that you can really believe that they've known each other their entire lives, and the little moments we get throughout all the darkness where their friendship shines through "just like the old times" are some of my favourite moments throughout。 Each character has their own unique personality, whether those are likeable or not (ahem Mat, I still do not like you very much) and all bring something to the table。 There was also a little bit of romantic angst towards the end that I didn't expect to find in this series, and kind of had my heart shattering a little bit。 I'm so excited to see these relationships developed further as the series goes on。The plot is relatively simple and linear, something I actually appreciated for the first book。 It lays the foundations and introduces you to the concepts of how the world works, doing so in a way that you never feel overwhelmed with an information overload。 The pacing did feel a little off at times, there were some definite lulls amidst the action-packed highs, but overall I found myself having no trouble picking up the book and being keen to find out what happens next。All in all, as I've said, this was an excellent introductory book into the Wheel of Time series, and has me so intrigued to see where it goes。 。。。more

I did it。 I read the whole boring book。 It took me two months。 Every time I picked it up I fell asleep。 A poor writers Tolkien/game of thrones。 Gave it an additional star because I like Paul。 Rand is a dragon, Perrin is a wolf, egwine is an ais sendai。 Mat will go bad。 A million and one boring dreams。 Who cares? Not me!

I was a bit anxious reading this book, it seems to have a mix reception。 It based on various mythologies/religions and also based upon Lord of Rings and King Arthur。If you were to ask what this story about without spoiling the story, I would say it’s the story about Rand Al'Thor and his friends escape from small secluded village。 Though the book is not structured to center on Rand and his travel companions do play an important part。 For me this book, it’s about the journey, companionship, person I was a bit anxious reading this book, it seems to have a mix reception。 It based on various mythologies/religions and also based upon Lord of Rings and King Arthur。If you were to ask what this story about without spoiling the story, I would say it’s the story about Rand Al'Thor and his friends escape from small secluded village。 Though the book is not structured to center on Rand and his travel companions do play an important part。 For me this book, it’s about the journey, companionship, personal growth/development and worldbuilding。 All of these aspects are important。 If you do like fantasy books, or stuff similar to Lord of the Rings, I think you would enjoy this book。Some of my issues with the book:*The Dark One (Ba'alzamon) For an all-powerful being, is in my opinion is weakens for all his appearances throughout the book。 I think he's repetitive appearances to show up and taunt the character, severely makes it less impactful and would have been better to have it more elusive setting that influences the world。*Darkfriends: Comes off as alot of people (average joes) are just evil for evil sake and pledged themselves to the dark one, even when it appears the dark one had no care what so-ever for the ones in his service。 They are just slaves for his bidding。*Rand and his companions: I looked up before review but apparently Rand, Mat and Perrin are 19 when they set out on this journey。 Honestly, they do not at like 19 years old, I would have thought them to be much younger。 Odd times they do seem some what mature, but most of the time you would think they a naïve young lads and even other characters within the story mention it like Rand a farmer bog with a sword。 Some could argue it could be that they grew up in a small village, but for the fantasy scene they set in, for me I would think the harsh times and having responsibilities thrown up on you in rough times would make them more mature。*Say one thing and do another。 This comment may be more affected by start of book 2 as I listened bit of that before starting this review, I won’t go in to spoilers, but it like keep a low profile or do such and such and then it’s the opposite that they do。*Every girl apart from the girl’s mother (and Aes Sedai) has some form of affection/attractive to Rand。 Farmers Daughter (Check), A princess (Check), or and this is after running all other with sheep herder clothes on his back。I would talk about positives more than I have above, but I feel if I talked about the positives that I would spoil the story。 Overall, I enjoyed the book and would recommend others to read。 。。。more

Can’t put it down! A well told story that keeps the wheel of the mind turning as time disappears into turns of the page。

I’m going to keep going and give the benefit of the doubt。 This first book was okay but nothing special, I still don’t feel attached to any particular characters, except Perrin because I think his ability is cool。 I have to thank God for the X-ray feature on kindles because there was a lot of character dumping without any real background and I was alway like “who the hell is this?”。 I hope it gets better。

I've been putting off starting this series for so long since it's always seemed too daunting, but I ended up really enjoying this! It was easy to fall into and had complex world-building, interesting characters (though there were times I kept mixing them all up in my head), and an intriguing magical element weaved throughout。 I also recommend checking out the audiobook if you're like me and find these slightly intimidating but still want to read them because I found it way easier to digest that I've been putting off starting this series for so long since it's always seemed too daunting, but I ended up really enjoying this!

I was really excited to finally start my WoT journey。 But the first book fell short of my expectations。Dividing the book in 3 parts, I was completely engrossed for the first 25% and the last 25% of the book。 I thoroughly enjoyed it。 The problem I faced was in the middle of the novel。 I felt it to be a bit too dragged and honestly many parts could have been excluded。 I’m not sure how much of it was foreshadowing, nonetheless, I found it difficult to be interested during those partsComing to world I was really excited to finally start my WoT journey。 But the first book fell short of my expectations。Dividing the book in 3 parts, I was completely engrossed for the first 25% and the last 25% of the book。 I thoroughly enjoyed it。 The problem I faced was in the middle of the novel。 I felt it to be a bit too dragged and honestly many parts could have been excluded。 I’m not sure how much of it was foreshadowing, nonetheless, I found it difficult to be interested during those partsComing to world-building, EoTW has set a standard for the entire series。 Can’t wait to deep-dive in it in the next books。I didn’t find the characters to be engaging enough but might change in the future。The journey continues… 。。。more

Is it possible to dislike a book and still want to keep reading the series?I did not hate this but aside from a few brief scenes, I was terribly bored by this book。 On one hand the story is just a meandering adventure with no good hook and characters range average to annoying, (view spoiler)[the one time I thought it was trying something interested by making Mat depressed, turned out be just some curse (hide spoiler)]。On the other, the characters are too miserable by their circumstance for me to Is it possible to dislike a book and still want to keep reading the series?I did not hate this but aside from a few brief scenes, I was terribly bored by this book。 On one hand the story is just a meandering adventure with no good hook and characters range average to annoying, (view spoiler)[the one time I thought it was trying something interested by making Mat depressed, turned out be just some curse (hide spoiler)]。On the other, the characters are too miserable by their circumstance for me to enjoy the story as a light adventure romp。 I'm sure in a world when fantasy genre was filled with Tolkein clones, this might have been a decent twist on the formula but it just isn't as interesting anymore。 The characters very slowly did grow on me, except Egwene。 She was a bitch from start to finish and had 0 chemistry with Rand。 But what stopped me from dropping the book entirely was the world building。 Every time some event of the past was mentioned or the political/regional structure of the world of explored I was genuinely curious。 The excruciating detail RJ goes into in his descriptions breaks the pacing often but when he's talking about lore, it is intriguing。 I will try 1 or 2 more books in the series before deciding if I'm done with it for good。 。。。more

A bit slow at times and a lot of world-building/character introducing, but the world and magic system are pretty unique and interesting, and I like the characters。 Everything came together and paid off with the last couple of chapters, and it left me wanting more! One book down, thirteen to go 😅

Read Sanderson and finally dipped my toe into the well。 Just like most adventure stories sometimes you get stuck in the mud and the have to press on through different adversities。 Such is the beginning of a 12 book 2 author adventure。

Great start to a fantasy series。 I’m glad I finally checked this out because I’m hooked now。 This feels a lot more like LOTR than GOT。

I'm starting this review by saying that It took me 3 months to finish this book。 I'm not a slow reader。 I read 500-page books in one sitting。 Maybe High Fantasy is not my cup of tea。 I'm still blaming my aphantasia for the lack of interest I have in description。I could review this book without mentioning The Lord Of The Rings but my experience with both of them was very similar so。 To quote my LOTR review "The pacing was painful"。 Everyone is praising it for the world-building but damn the major I'm starting this review by saying that It took me 3 months to finish this book。 I'm not a slow reader。 I read 500-page books in one sitting。 Maybe High Fantasy is not my cup of tea。 I'm still blaming my aphantasia for the lack of interest I have in description。I could review this book without mentioning The Lord Of The Rings but my experience with both of them was very similar so。 To quote my LOTR review "The pacing was painful"。 Everyone is praising it for the world-building but damn the majority of the time I was thinking "Can you get to the point?"。As always I do have some notes。"and Rand supposed women would have found him good-looking" (for reference I forgot who he was describing here。) Jesus, it's not gay to call another man good-looking!"She touched her breast。"CHEST***** She was shocked。 Am I the only one who thought she grabbed her own boob?50% in and I had the audacity to note "I want more thinking and planning。 Not just we're in trouble。。。 there's a man who will help us。" ---Plot conveniences。--- Quoting the Man, The Legend, The Disheveled Goblin "Not Terry Goodkind level of conveniences。 You want a dragon here's a fucking dragon。 Not that kind。"80% in I was practically begging for a plot twist。 Damn at least a misdirect。 It felt like a graph with no ups and downs。 Just a straight line。 Would I continue the series?
